   Huacaya Alpacas

When an Alpaca is mentioned, the vision that comes to the minds of most people is the very fluffy, animal with a fleece that gives them the appearance of a very long legged, long necked sheep. That is the  huacaya alpaca. They have charming, loveable faces topped with a topknot of their wonderful fiber. Their thick, bushy tails are carried close to their bodies.

In full coat  huacaya alpacas have a pronounced rounded appearance from the 3 to 4 inch long coat that they are  sporting. There is considerable crimp to huacayas fiber. It is soft, strong and has superior insulating qualities. It comes in a full range of natural colors from white to black with varying shades of grey, and a range of browns from the lightest beige to a dark brown that can be described as mahogany. The fiber takes dyes beautifully giving a true color with white and wonderful tones with the colored fibers. It can be blended with other fibers and can be spun worsted or woolen into a soft silky yarn.
